Bringing value of global standards for sovereign data-sharing to your mobility, transport and tourism services

Dataspaces: disrupting the digital world through collective intelligence

Knowledge enables action but how can you get insights when your organization only holds part of the answer ?

Did you know 80% of industrial data is never shared ?

Data is a non-rivalrous good, similar to streetlights or a scenic view: many people can access them simultaneously, and they can be consumed repeatedly without diminishing their quality or depleting the supply.
On the contrary, the more data is shared, the more value is created, either through new services or through the optimization of existing processes. The value of data lies in its use and re-use.

Currently, 70k Petabytes are expected to flow in the European Data economy this year. But this is just the beginning as the need for good quality data products, ready for innovative re-use, including for the development of artificial intelligence is expected to grow by + 150% in the next five years.

What do dataspaces bring?

Europe is enabling data sharing—up to €270B in extra GDP with a trusted data economy.

Supporting the data union strategy:

“Data spaces” appear as neutral infrastructures that can support this strategy. EONA-X was created in 2022 in the wake of the Data Governance Act (DGA). We decided to follow the newly created standards for data sharing and state-of-the-arts technology and were declared lighthouse project for GAIA-X. Our mission has been to apply this framework to the sectors of mobility, transport and tourism, testing its relevance in real-life use-cases for public and private actors across Europe.

Data governance:

Dataspaces are there to create the conditions to share and use data with complete confidence. To achieve this, they rely on a decentralized architecture.

Contrarily to centralized platforms (data lakes) they do not require data to be transferred to a single point. What is shared initially is the metadata in a federated catalog. Each actor maintains control of their data, while making it accessible to others according to rules defined together.

Smart contracts:

If the data consumer complies with the conditions of the data provider, a smart contract is issued. The exchange itself is therefore allowed but does not pass through the dataspace, the transfer goes directly from peer to peer between participants.

Interoperability:

Another promise of dataspaces is to use similar building blocks ensuring the interoperability between ecosystems. By using the same standards worldwide, data spaces reinvent the way the digital world shares information and services. This new protocol if adopted by all should unlock considerable value and potential for innovation while respecting data owner’s right.

How it works

A dataspace applied to transport, mobility, and tourism to create concrete use cases

Decentralized architecture

Data is not centralized in one location. Only metadata is shared in a federated catalog. Each participant keeps control of their data while allowing access under agreed policies.

Community of trust

All participants follow a transparent governance framework. This ensures secure, compliant, and fair data sharing, building trust across sectors.

Relevant data for transport, mobility and tourism

The shared data is tailored to specific needs, like optimizing traffic, improving user experiences, or predicting demand.

Cross-sector use cases

By connecting data across sectors, new services emerge. Data spaces break down silos, creating opportunities for collaboration and innovation.

Our vision

Empowering innovation through trusted data collaboration

We imagine a data space that enables fluid, sustainable, and interconnected mobility, transport, and tourism services — a space where data flows securely and seamlessly between trusted partners, driving innovation, improving user experiences, and fostering cross-sector collaboration. By facilitating access to high-value data and ensuring responsible governance, we aim to empower ecosystems to co-create smarter, greener, and more resilient services.

Our solution

A solution designed to structure and enhance data sharing

Trusted

EONA-X relies on European standards to guarantee the traceability, compliance and autonomy of each actor. Data circulates within a controlled framework, between trusted partners.

Decentralized

The data stays where it is produced. Thanks to federated orchestration, exchanges are secure, without concentration of data or dependence on a single platform.

Open source

We provide an open and interoperable technological architecture, accessible to all, without proprietary locks. Transparency is at the heart of our approach.
