[Berlin / Paris, 3 November 2026] To accelerate interoperability across the European mobility data ecosystem, EONA-X and the German Mobility Data Space (MDS) join forces. The two established European data spaces have a shared ambition: turn Europe’s fragmented data environments into a connected, trusted and sovereign ecosystem. Rather than creating another centralised platform, EONA-X – France 2030 laureate – and the German MDS – funded by the German Federal Ministry of Transport – will demonstrate how independently governed ecosystems can connect, exchange data and create value while preserving data sovereignty, confidentiality and control.

“We are delighted to take this important step in Franco-German cooperation with the German Mobility Data Space. Our shared ambition is to move beyond discussions and make interoperability between our data ecosystems a reality”, states Charles Telitsine, CEO of EONA-X.

“Joining forces of EONA-X and MDS provides the basis for added-value applications in both ecosystems. We are eager to achieve interoperability between the two data spaces, laying the foundation for fully operational European data ecosystems, sovereign data sharing, and new applications across borders.”, adds Marc Augusto, Managing Director of MDS.

Focus on road safety, automated mobility and logistics

The cooperation will translate this ambition into four strategic domain areas: road safety data, Connected, Cooperative and Automated Mobility (CCAM), logistics, and electric vehicle charging infrastructure. These domains will serve as real-world environments to develop and test interoperability across borders and sectors. Beyond these use cases, EONA-X and MDS will establish a broader cooperation on the European data ecosystem, sharing technical and governance approaches, connecting their respective communities and contributing jointly to European initiatives on interoperability, standards and trusted data sharing.

About the Mobility Data Space

The Mobility Data Space (MDS) is a data ecosystem that enables mobility sector partners to exchange data on their own terms to develop innovative, environmentally friendly, and user-centric mobility services. Its technical design is closely aligned with European and national initiatives to ensure interoperability with European data spaces. The MDS is operated by the non-profit organisation DRM Datenraum Mobilität GmbH and is funded by the German Federal Ministry of Transport (BMV).

In addition to the acatech Foundation, its shareholders include BMW INTEC Beteiligungs GmbH, Caruso GmbH, Deutsche Bahn Aktiengesellschaft, DHL Group, HERE Europe B.V., HUK-COBURG Haftpflicht-Unterstützungs-Kasse kraftfahrender Beamter Deutschlands a.G. in Coburg, Mercedes-Benz AG, VDV eTicket Verwaltungsgesellschaft mbH, Volkswagen Group Info Services AG, and the federal states of Baden-Württemberg, Bavaria, and North Rhine-Westphalia. Over 150 organisations are already partners and members of the data space and are actively using it to implement their data-driven business models.

Background – Areas of cooperation

Road safety. MDS aims at technically integrating EONA-X and its ecosystem into the project Data for Road Safety (DFRS) to further increase road safety throughout Europe.

CCAM. The partners will work on trusted data exchanges supporting connected, cooperative and automated mobility, including interoperability between vehicles, infrastructure operators, mobility providers, and public authorities.

Logistics. Cooperation will explore cross-border and multimodal data exchanges between logistics operators, infrastructure managers and transport modes, supporting more efficient European freight flows.

Electric vehicle charging. MDS and EONA-X will work on interoperability for charging infrastructure data, enabling information such as charging availability to be accessed and used across mobility ecosystems.

Technical cooperation

The partnership will progressively address interoperability across data exchange mechanisms and connectors, catalogues and data discovery, semantic models and vocabularies, identity and trust frameworks, and data usage policies.

Both ecosystems will continue to be governed independently. The objective is to enable the members of both ecosystems to interact and exchange data without requiring the creation of a common centralised infrastructure or transferring control over their data.

A broader European cooperation

The partnership is also intended to contribute to the wider European data ecosystem. EONA-X and MDS will share lessons learned, engage their respective communities and contribute to European work on interoperability, standards, governance, and regulatory implementation.

The cooperation can progressively be extended to additional European ecosystems, partners and use cases, supporting the emergence of a federated European environment for trusted data sharing.
